Owen Culver

Owen Culver is a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. Owen is currently working on his Master’s thesis under the supervision of Prof. Hong Chen. His research involves integrating a functional ultrasound (fUS) imaging system with focused ultrasound (FUS) technology to examine brain activity in rodents during both artificially induced hibernation (UIH) and natural torpor states.

Academic Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Washington University in St. Louis, expected June 2026
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Washington University in St. Louis, May 2024

Research Experience:

  • Washington University in St. Louis – Brain Dynamics Group (June 2021 – January 2023)
    •  Worked on a project analyzing EEG data from patients in the ICU (intensive care unit) to develop a method for finding the correlation between ICP (intracranial pressure) and EEG.
    • Developed algorithms and code to detect desynchronization between left and right brain hemisphere EEG waveforms to detect ongoing seizures and predict future seizures.
