For the first time ever, focused ultrasound has been used to clinically deliver chemotherapy drugs past the Blood Brain Barrier! Sunnybrook scientists also used microbubbles to expand tight junctions in blood vessel walls, to allow the chemotherapy drugs to pass through to the brain tumor. Read more about the cover, here!
Prof. Hong Chen’s paper titled “Harmonic Motion Imaging for Abdominal Tumor Detection and High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation Monitoring: An In Vivo Feasibility Study in a Transgenic Mouse Model of Pancreatic Cancer” is featured on the cover of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control

Alpinion VIFU 2000 is installed! This system is an ultrasound-guided focused ultrasound system. It has an ultrasound imaging research platform, E-CUBE 12R, which is equipped with full RF data and software beamforming capabilities.
Philips Sonalleve MR-HIFU is installed! This system is designed for noninvasive hyperthermia and thermal ablation of tissue deep inside the body using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). MRI is used for HIFU treatment planning, during treatment temperature monitoring, and after treatment assessment.
