The Chen team, led by Yaoheng Yang and former postdoc Zhongtao Hu, has recently developed a new technology called Airy-beam holographic sonogenetics, or AhSonogenetics. This revolutionary technology utilizes the Airy beam-enabled binary acoustic metasurface (AB-BAMs) to acoustically modulate neurons. AB-BAMs is a 3D-printed holographic device that can flexibly manipulate ultrasound beams. The use of AB-BAMs for sonogenetics enables precise targeting of neurons in specific brain subregions and offers the flexibility of dynamically targeting multiple brain regions. The development of AhSonogenetics is published in PNAS and has been featured in the WashU News. Congratulations to the Chen team for their exceptional work!
